Mikhael Subotzky & Patrick Waterhouse, 'Ponte City'

The BAL art space hosts a collaborative project from South African photographer Mikhael Subotzky and artist Patrick Waterhouse, a visual epic poem covering four decades (1975-2013) around the monumental building that dominates the centre of Johannesburg and that has become a symbol of it: Ponte City.

The incarnation of the prosperity of the apartheid era and white domination, then the collapse of the city centre in the 1990s and finally a multi-ethnic renovation at the beginning of the 21st century, Ponte City has endured over time all the pains of a society undergoing enormous change.
