Festival Villette Sonique

What electro dreams are made of...

We've said it before and we'll say it again: The Villette district is in constant renewal and increasingly exciting. This time it's thanks to one of France's most refreshing electronic music festivals, Villette Sonique, which takes place for a week in the Grande Halle, a throwback from the days when Villette was the city's main meat market and abattoir area.

Last year thousands of revelers turned up to see the likes of Animal Collective, Discodeine, Caribou, Busy P, French toucher Sebastian, L-VIS 1990, Current 93, Glenn Branca, The Fall, OOIOO, Cheveu, I Apologize, Thurston Moore, Matias Aguayo and numerous other on-the-uppers who spliced DJ sets away into the wee hours. This year, the final programme (soon to be announced on this page) promises to be just as enticing with extra 'underground' concerts at Villette's Géode, Cité de la musique, at the Cabaret Sauvage and on outdoor stages.

If you're a musician, don't miss the 'village label' section, which facilitates meetings between producers and musicians. There are also interesting master classes, and (in the Little Sonique area) workshops for kids.

Event takes place 24th-30th May 2012. Programme to be announce in March.
