It’s been nearly two months since most of us could last get our hair cut, nails done or eyebrows shaped by a professional. The UK is now a nation of unruly brows, grown-out acrylics, dodgy buzz cuts and wonky fringes.
If you’re one of the many people longing for a professional to sort out your latest dodgy home haircut, here’s what you need to know about the roadmap to recovery announced by Boris Johnson today.
Last year, hairdressers were counted as higher-risk businesses because of the close proximity needed to get treatments done. But this time around, they’re due to reopen at the same time as non-essential shops.
Hair salons (and other beauty and pampering venues – the government guidance calls them ‘personal care premises’) will reopen on April 12 at the earliest, as part of the government’s ‘Step 2’. That date could still be delayed if numbers don’t head in the right direction.
Once they’re open again, you can expect that venues will once again need to be large enough to allow social-distancing measures, and will have to provide suitable PPE to customers and staff.
