What is it? A Sydney institution, aka ground zero for whisky and fresh apple juice, taxidermy, shelled peanuts and endless Country Western hits.
Why we love it: Shady upped the ante in a big way when the lights switched on for the first time more than a decade (!) ago, giving rise to some of the country’s top talent and putting Sydney on the map as a drinking destination. Its appeal and importance have not waned.
Time Out tip: The so-called ‘World’s Greatest Happy Hour’ takes place daily (!!) from 4-6pm, spruiking $5.50 beer and wines, house spirits are $6.50, and Negronis and Margaritas will cost you $12. A steal.
