Quibi is the much-anticipated new short-form mobile video platform founded by Jeffrey Katzenberg. It officially launches today in the U.S. and Canada with 50 new original shows and is now available for free for 90 days if you sign up by April 30.

We know what you must be thinking: another tech platform? Is it worth the download? How different can it be from Tik Tok, YouTube, Instagram Live? We're here to aid you on that front.

Below, we break down the new app, telling you what to expect from it and, ultimately, help you decide whether to sign up for it.

What is Quibi?

The app specializes in quick bites (hence the name qui-bi), seeking to develop very short video content that differs from the likes of Tik Tok in production value. Also, the content isn't created by users. Rather, a team of industry pros is rallying behind it. You'll be watching super high-end clips that just happen to last ten minutes or so.

What content are we talking about here?

Just about anything: scripted shows, dramas, comedies, news, weather and more. The app launched today with 50 new original shows that all last up to ten minutes. The platform has announced plans to release over 175 new programs this year.

Any specific shows that people will be talking about?

Likely. Chrissy's Court, starring the hilarious Chrissy Teigen "administering justice in small claims cases a la Judge Judy," sounds promising. Chance the Rapper is set to host a new season of Punk'd and the likes of Jennifer Lopez and Reese Witherspoon have also signed up to produce and/or star in some content.

Can I use the app on my computer?

Nope. The app is strictly available on smart phones and tablets.

Is this free?

For now. In response to the coronavirus pandemic, the app's owners have decided to offer a 90-day free trial through April 30. Following that period, folks have two options: $4.99 a month with ads or $7.99 for an ad-free version.

Overall, this seems like a pretty sweet deal. It's free, why not try it?

Convinced yet? Here is a list of 15 must-see Quibi shows that might seal the deal for you.
